Sexually Transmitted Infections (VIDEO)

Safe sex is more than just wearing condoms. Most sexually transmitted infections are skin-to-skin contact viruses and bacteria that cannot be contained with condoms. And oral can be just as risky as intercourse.

How likely are you to get a sexually transmitted infection? How soon should you sleep with a new lover? Is it essential to have the “Safe Sex Talk?” (YES!)

Considering that in today’s fast-paced, online-dating-fueled hookup culture and dating landscape…

If you’re dating around, your chances of getting an STI multiply like horny rabbits.

While monkeypox is blooming in the wastewater, the latest variant of Covid doesn’t even have any monoclonal antibodies to tamp it down (and your best recourse now is an antiviral called Paxlovid). It’s more important than ever to discuss safe sex practices with a partner.

That’s why today’s video is about Sexually Transmitted Infections, and it’s with my good friend, Dr. Carol Queen.

She is the author of The Sex & Pleasure Book, a sexologist for Good Vibrations (the original vibrator store), and an activist in the sexuality space.

Some of the topics we cover include:

  • The many different STIs, especially the ones we don’t hear much about…

  • Necessary STI tests to get…
  • How to avoid STIs and why condoms aren’t the be-all-end-all of safe sex…

TIME magazine published that according to the WHO, a million new sexually transmitted infections are transmitted daily.

This is something to be wary of, especially if you’re sexually active.

When I went to Planned Parenthood recently, the gynecologist explained that the three most common infections — chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis — seldom present any symptoms and mostly go unchecked.

That’s why it’s VITAL to have STI tests done every six months if you’re sexually active with new partners.

Nope. If you know me, I always love a reasonable steamy sex date.
