“It’s incredibly important, the quality of the food you’re eating, I believe in this conversation we’re going to get specific about that as we go along.  Eat a little bit less and I am going to say the main culprit, the one who robs us the most of the food grips is starch.

I and then I have to put this in because I think it really is important, I tend to want to get together earlier and then I want to make love and then I want to eat.  Variety of liquids is my favorite quench is like tea, protein drinks, green drinks, carrot juice, master clin, soup of brose, tomato juice, it’s really easy and practical, nothing hard.  I like things that are really convenient for people they can just pets, canned bottled in their bag and take it off to work with them whole day.

If they want to get in the city and do their cleanse on the road, it’s just about your belly is actually shrinking, integrity is returning, the tightening and it’s a wonderful experience and interpreted as integrity returning.”

Francesca Gentille:  Grace has a masters in Oriental Medicine and in Education, a double masters.  She is a trained naturopathic practitioner, a certified acupuncturist, the author of an amazing book ‘The five essential laws of eating’ and really a dynamic, a mentor clinician role model in the area of living a healthy lifestyle with ease and grace and she is beautiful.  I wish this that we’re, I told this in show right now, I’ve seen Grace in person and she is the embodiment of vitality and aliveness and at any age, at particularly at her age, Grace let’s just start, how old are you?

Grace Purusha:  I am 56, soon to be 57.

Francesca Gentille:  And just as I said, I wish you could see her, she is live and…you know, the guy that enjoys, when you’re feeling a room she is just vibrant and smiling and moving with absolute readiness, it’s just a delight and why I invited Grace today is because she has seen, for those of us who want to have a great love life and a great sex life, around how food can actually support that or getting the way of that for us, and Grace, could you tell me a little bit, kind of maybe lay a foundation for us on how does food do that?  Why is food important in our relationships in our sex life?

Grace Purusha:  Well food is important to every single thing that we do because it is what keeps us alive, it’s what brings life to our essence, to our personality, to how we want to express ourselves, it’s the fuel, it’s just like you put gasoline in your tank, I often make the analogy between ourselves and a car I mean you can put tin of butter in your car or you can put high quality fuel in your car and it’s going to make all the difference in the world in everything and I am excited that we’re going to speak about the relationship between food and our eating and sexuality although it effects all of our creativity, how we do in our work, how we communicate, how we interpret life.

So what you eat is, I mean I have to say that I have often, some times, I have a very high sexuality myself and some people go, some men who meet me will say ‘my goodness, for a 56-year-old woman, you’re like a 20-year-old, you’re like an insatiable appetite and so alive and so orgasmic’ and they say, ‘what do you think it is’ and I honestly say ‘I think it’s the way that I eat and it’s the way that I care for myself because so much of my energy is left open and accessible and not being put into feeding overfeeding myself’. 

So I think that it’s incredibly important, the quality of the food you eat and I believe in this conversation we’re going to get specific about that as we go along.

Francesca Gentille:  Absolutely.  We’ve just mentioned a couple of things you have, if this food is this you, everyone high quality.  You mentioned that not over feeding.

Grace Purusha:  Definitely not.

Francesca Gentille:  And what, how to, let’s go to overfeeding and then we’ll go to quality.  How do I know that I am overfeeding or underfeeding my body or my lover feeding them, how do I know?

Grace Purusha:  Well let’s start from the most obvious and gross and then we’ll go to the more specific but you know on the grosser levels, one really obviously and I’ve often noticed, now from in that how you’re often sometimes and often attracted to similar body types?  I am like a real lean kind of cat person and I am lean and toned and high energy and I am really attracted to men who are lean and toned and high energy and then some times people who are little softer and rounder, they’re attracted to more softer and rounder people, their likes and their appetites is similar and they attract that but one thing I will often notice is if somebody has a bloated belly, I go, hmm, I wonder why they have a bloated belly’ and I’ll often almost get from point ‘A’ to point ‘F’ and go, hmmm, they must be overeating, they’re probably a little sluggish, they’re probably not as high energy, you can’t say always but in 25 years of practicing I have found that people who eat too much often will have a bloated belly, be more tired, be less sexual and not have the same kind of energy and mood centering because the quality of what they’re eating is of a lower vibration and there’s no way around that.

Francesca Gentille:  So, we want to have this, you know, good libido and vibrant sexuality and how do I know so how can I tell in my body, how can our listening audience govern their body?  What’s you know, just right?

Grace Purusha:  Am I overfeeding so what are the things…

Francesca Gentille:  Am I overfeeding.

Grace Purusha:  Ok, so you might be bloated, you definitely are going to have less energy when you’re overfeeding yourself because 40% of your energy when you have food in you, goes to breaking that down and stimulating those nutrients and moving it through your whole digestive tract and that takes a lot of energy.

So if you’re a person who notices often that after you eat, maybe anywhere from one hour to two hours after a genuine little nap, you’re going well, I need a coffee, I need some sugar, rather than that you could eat a little bit less and I am going to say the main culprit, the one who robs us the most of the food grips is starch because starch affects your blood sugar and it’s usually heavy and those two qualities are going to bring your energy down and I strongly recommend if you have a hot date on Saturday night, that Saturday you not eat starch and you not overfeed yourself because you’re going to what, the starch dumps sugar into your bloodstream.

You’re going to have a list and it’s going to be wonderful and you’re going to love it for 20 minutes to 40 minutes and then after that, you’re also going to come down because your body is going to remove that sugar from your bloodstream because it doesn’t want that there and then you’re going to go down.  This is sometimes such a quantum shift for people to make not only in their sexual energy but all their energy is to remove those pastas, breads, bagels, cones, cereals, all of that starchy potatoes, even starchy vegetables, sweet potatoes and even grains like rice.

If you have a hot date, I would say go for vegetables and proteins because they are not going to disturb your blood sugar.  You can also eat less and be more satisfied whereas starch tends to either have usually the covered and sugar, salt and oil which causes you to eat more because it tastes so good and then you’ve over eaten and then there goes your energy.

It can also cause other inconvenient things such as gas and smelliness and sweating, not that sweating sure but I would say gas is the biggest issue for overeating that’s not going to be lovely when you’re making love.

Francesca Gentille:  Absolutely, including if our blood flow is all in all digested for you know, some people might be listening that getting or keeping in erection is a challenge, that’s just going to make it worse and for some of our women that might be listening that, it’s a challenge to lubricate or stay lubricated if the [xx] that’s also going to be taking away from they’re really to lubricate.

Grace Purusha:  That’s is true because energy is energy and you get at a certain point, a moment in your life you have your 100% of energy and you got to say where do I want my energy storehouse going this evening.  So I would say that there’s the day that you want to be really hot and available and at your prime and then there’s the long term look at your life and I’d say over the long term if you’re a person who eats more food that is fruit, vegetable and protein oriented versus starch oriented, you are definitely going to stay younger, you’re going to be have a much harder, that’s my, much harder hormone secretion storehouse.  You’re going to have a lot more sexual energy, you’re going to allow the, you’re going to have a different flirtation, you know, seduction, how do you attract when you’re feeling a little more on the empty side than on the full side, that emptiness can translate into hunger for a connection, hunger to love, to kiss, to be seen, to see, that hunger that you have, you can direct that just where you want it to go and get very subtle and very refined in what you can be sensitive to in yourself and in your partner.

And all that would take a little guts some times, especially for women who guide the eating of your man when you’re running to have a sacred date, would be wise if you, and if you’re the one making the dinner, surely I would not serve the heavier food, even though some people think that pasta and Italian food is kind of an aphrodisiac, I would beg to differ with that.

Francesca Gentille:  You know, I want to talk…

Grace Purusha:  … because it tastes wonderful but it doesn’t help your sexuality.

Francesca Gentille:  Great, I am going to kind of jump in right now because I want to talk more about this and what we might design the dinner, the aphrodisiac dinners to really have a great evening.  A lot of us come together in evenings or our erotic pouters and you know maybe discuss them at the aphrodisiac themselves after we come back from a break and a word from our sponsor.

Francesca Gentille:  Welcome back to Sex, Tantra and Kamasutra bringing you the soul of sex with Grace Purusha who is the author ‘The five essential laws of eating’ and who has been teaching for over 25 years, a life coach, a health coach and a nationally recognized lecturer and presenter who is talking to us about how they call food business the fuel of our life effect our mood and effects our sexual libido and our sexual mentally attractiveness but how we actually have energy in that and we are just starting to get into how you know, the no-no meow is too much potatoes and starch and rice and pasta.  What would be a yes-yes meow that we would think our partner to or that we would ….

Grace Purusha:  Oh it’s interesting.  I am going to answer that question but first I would have to say that when I get to choose about eating with my partner, I and I have to put this in because I think it really is important, I can too want to get together earlier and I want to make love and then I want to eat and so I will often recommend us to have a 5 or 6 o’clock bedroom date and then with a couple of little things like may be some very essential, like figs for me are the food of the gods.

I think a fig is the closest thing to the sacred parts of a woman as god made in the world of food.  So I like to have figs and things that are very essential like that and feed each other and take little bytes, maybe have like a plate of water melon and a beautiful very luscious cup of tea with some wonderful vanilla or soy soak in it, something that peaks your sweetness or like just a taste like the Dionysians used to do, a taste of wine, a taste of this and that, a taste of chocolate on a strawberry which would be a lovely opener and I like that little things like that just to kind of open the sealed and then I like to make love with all my energy and build up a nice big appetite and then afterwards, I would like have something that would be, maybe that I had prepared before, it might be a beautiful user salad or some lovely fish and something you know, light for dissert, against maybe some grapes, a beautiful tea and as far as aphrodisiacs, personally I really, I don’t have foods that actually stimulate my appetite as much as I have qualities of food which is light and water content.

I have mentioned water melon already and grapes and figs and fruit, I think that fruit is a really wonderful food that put just enough blood sugar in you to have you have the energy and then dissipates slowly and then you can bring in other little things that you’ve noticed like you have to pay attention, you’ve got to investigate your earned experience and your partner’s experience.

As far as time, how long after this person eats, is it good for him or her to make love and what is it that’s like oyster’s friends and I went out the other night and had a lot of oysters, you know, maybe ten oysters, they were so good but I didn’t notice anything like people say.  I didn’t really and I never really have, I think it’s just fun to think that they do and sometimes it’s just the internal ballad where you grab and go, oh let’s have oysters and then go back and make raven, sometimes I saw it is more realistic than what it actually does but I think chocolate really does it for people a lot and I think that if you can have a little bit like on a strawberry or say in some beautiful delicious like a decap with some chocolate syrup in it that that’s really lovely.

Some people have always, you know it’s been to over tie, you like to put some on your partner’s sensual parts and lick it off, that’s always fun, can be a little messy but can be very fun but I have to say I am not a master of aphrodisiacs and food because I haven’t really had that experience myself.  I am more find it’s the quality and water content foods like vegetables and to go have Thai food and Chinese food before you’re going to make love because they’re so light and they’re so tasty and an hour later, you’re not full at all, by the time you get home, you’re stimulated and then I think it really is beautiful to have food for afterwards.

I have a lover now and he likes, he is hungry after he makes love and so I always have things sitting by the bed, I have nectarines and I have peaches and beautiful foods like that and apples sliced up with a little bit of nut butter, nut is a beautiful snack which also works good for us.

So that’s my best response to that.

Francesca Gentille:  So if, what you’re telling us is if possible, maybe just have something extremely light, maybe little snacks or you get some little tit-bits in the bedroom and make love first and then have a slightly bigger meal afterwards and always see that light, be a little bit under fat, keep it a little bit hungry, you know because when we’re hungry it translates into hunger for all of life appetite, for all of life in an appetite first.

Grace Purusha:  I think so that has been my experience and the thing that I would say in the long run, which I think is important to mention for people listening in your obviously wanting to know, in the long run I feel some of the most important practices for staying young, juicy, alive, sexual, full of hormones, surging to you is to do regular cleansing and this might be something that surprises some people but I personally believe in this, a lot of information on this in my book in ‘the five keys to eating’ is that cleansing purifies your bloodstream.

When you retreat from eating the concentrated food such as starch, fats and proteins, your body actually kicks into gear to go do health cleaning and it cleans your blood and it cleans your circulatory system and it cleans your muscles and your joints and all your filter organs of which there’s five of those and after a three day cleanse, you fell honestly ten years younger and I do this regularly.

I do it every month, sometimes every couple of weeks, two to three days on just fruits and vegetables is all you need to do, doesn’t have to be a fancy thing with products and drinking olive oil and all that, it’s just you retreat, you let your body rest from the heavier foods and it cleans your blood and afterwards, you are re-energized and you would be amazed and I have, I am always amazed especially with women in menopausal years, when they do a cleanse, it often restimulates their sexual appetite and deliver which is responsible for metabolizing hormones in the body.

Once that liver gets cleared up it does a much better job in distributing and stimulating and utilizing hormones and you look at these things and you go wow, I am really glad to find out that, that I didn’t realize that, this could change your whole ageing process and I believe it has mine for sure.  I just feel so young and so alive and so vibrant and I think it’s because I eat light and I cleanse regularly.

Francesca Gentille:  Oh, I would certainly have to say looking at you that it’s absolutely working and that you’re an inspiration and Grace, I want to talk more about some of the way that we might cleanse, how we can support our partner, how we can even make during this light erotic task being in a sense, something we can share with someone and also if you can talk about quality food that are, I want to have our listening audience understand more about what makes something of quality food after we come back from a break and a word from our sponsor.

Grace Purusha:  Yes, there are and in fact I think it’s very personally exciting to cleanse with a partner because you both start to feel so good and as you both feel the energy start to surge up, you’re like, oh man, this is so great, and it’s so supportive to do this with a beloved.

I have two friends who are right now, they consider themselves to be mythic lovers and that now they’re on day 8 of a master cleanse, a lemon drink with maple syrup drink and they’re just loving and you know it’s so much easier to do it with your partner and sometimes its your partner who needs it and you do it with them just so that they will do it and of course it’s always to your benefit to do that.

So I think that master cleanse is a wonderful cleanse.  I personally like a variety liquid, variety of liquids is my favorite cleanse, it is, so like tea, protein drinks, green drinks, carriages, master cleanse, super brose, tomato juice, really easy and practical nothing hard.  I like things that are real convenient for people they can just pack ten bottles in their bag and take it off to work for the whole day or go into the city and do their cleanse on the road, I call it taking your cleanse on the road and so that would be a little bit more of an extreme cleanse on liquids but you could also take a Friday and Saturday and a Sunday with your beloved and cosy up at home and get some good movies and do some walking and just do fruit and vegetables with fruit being 30% and 70% light steamed vegetables, salads with lemon juice and you just leave off all the fats and oils, proteins and starch and just do fruits and vegetables, you would not believe the fantastic results you get from three days of that and again, if you think your partner would do well, maybe to take off a little weight, maybe to take up your energy, maybe to get their bloating down or their big belly, you could say, honey, let’s do a three day cleanse in three weeks from now.

Lets look at our calendars and schedule in a time when you and I could do that and let’s do that, let’s give ourselves that gift, you know how great we always feel when we do that and I’ve heard it’s so wonderful to do that but those are my two favorite cleanses to do that are very easy for people.

Francesca Gentille:  And I can really see that you know, if you know your partner, it is a way to inspire like some people, you know I know with my beloved if I said, let’s go a three day cleanse and every time they were feeling really hungry, let’s just take a few fruits and vegetables into the bedroom and then let’s spend some time caressing and kissing and licking each other and making love and if I said that to help me, would say oh lets do a three day cleanse right away and…

Grace Purusha:  Well you can say each time we have a little hunger pan, let’s kiss each other, anywhere we want and by the way don’t let those hunger pangs for you what’s really going on when you’re cleansing and you know you’re getting nutrients and all these fruits, vegetables and liquids, it’s just about your belly is actually shrinking integrity is returning, it’s tightening and it’s a wonderful experience and interpreted as integrity returning and then go kiss the one you love with your hunger.

Francesca Gentille:  And you know if it’s a woman you know, maybe or depending on who the person is, maybe the idea of having a little video first, would be very exciting.  Its like ooh, when we’re feeling little hungry let’s put another video and or even say, let’s go shopping or let’s do something that, you know what is it that that person would love and would enjoy doing walking in the woods whatever and say that is the treat, that is the nutrient versus the food for three days.

Grace Purusha:  Go for the love, go for the love, let’s have a loving and consume and put out love while we cleanse our bodies and rejuvinate and reinvigorate ourselves and I think another question you had earlier which I want to make sure I get to is what really are quality food and what is the distinction between one that is and one that isn’t and that’s a very simple answer.

I consider that food that was presented to us by nature, life, spirit, god itself are the quality foods and foods that are processed or seasoned are the ones that are less high quality and that all of course be on a continual, I mean a potato chip is different than a steamed potato with a little bit of olive oil on it.  It hasn’t been fried, it hasn’t been overly salted but the more processed and broken down, which is why my book ‘The five essential laws of eating’ is so important, is it explains you that whole continuum and to understand that food that is whole, food that is simply eaten like having say, salad and fish is very different than a Mexican Borido which has 15 different things inside of it.

So whole and simple and natural, clean, means not very much salt, sugar and oil on top and alive, not too over cooked and those are the qualities that we’re looking for when we want to have the highest fuel intake that we can get and so processed food things in bags and boxes and wrappers, like those little bars that everyone eats, I never eat those bars where I would rather have an apple or if you want nuts, you know nuts, nuts and dried fruit, dried fruit I do not recommend to people because it’s a very high sugar content and you may find that your energy goes down after eating them say a half hour later because it’s so high in sugar that you’re going to have a blood sugar disturbance like that.

Nuts are very dense, they’re not always for everybody.  If you’re a sluggish person or you’re overweight or you tend to digest poorly, I would not recommend that I would recommend vegetables, have yourself a beautiful plate of tomatoes, lightly salted or with bragged amino acids on top or some celery with a meshed up avopado is far better snacks for you than nuts and being well fed like that takes a little bit more preparation so people who are a little lazy around food, tend to go for nuts and chips and bagels and cones and cookies, stuff they don’t have to make.

I believe that we graduate to another level of health and alivement when we’re going to take a little bit more responsibility for having healthy, water content food prepared.  For instance, I am leaving for the day after this interview and I made up in advance a whole big container for myself and my beloved of cute up air limb tomatoes with chopped vassel and a little bit of abocado and then I have plums and grapes relater and I made up some bottle of dilute juice 25% orange juice and 75% water which is a great thing to do for energy if you’re planning on some long extended love making session, that might be nice and baby carrots and maybe a little bit of homice and that’s going to take us through the whole day and we don’t have to worry about food now.  I think that’s really important that you begin to think of yourself as a person who really values having good food available rather than grabbing what’s convenient and processed.  It’s a real line in the sand of marks out difference in your aliveness.

Francesca Gentille:  And this, this really is about the sacred way of living and the sacred way of eating and the sacred of loving is that you know that sacred is precious, that sacred means quality and it’s saying that we’re taking the time for ourselves and our beloved to make the whole experience, what we eat and the way we eat it, how we get it, just beautiful.

Grace Purusha:  Everything’s there, the way you eat, the way your room looks, the way your space is or all your things put away is the order, does it smell nice, you know when I get up from making love in the morning I would open all the windows and pull back the bed, let everything air around and smell, what are we reading, what are we thinking, how do we interpret events, what’s our inner diet, our mental diet?  What’s that like and I teach six arts of living which is the art of eating, the art of moving some people don’t exercise at all and they’re not going to have the same aliveness in the bed as I am going to have doing two times a day, a bike ride and a walk.

So you eat, you move, you think, you relate, you have purpose, you have creativity, you rest, you relax, those are all components of the six arts of living and every single one of them is equal and is important and each must be adjust and see where are you falling short and so I believe that the art of eating is one of the most significant ones and movement and they’re all, you know you might eat and move real well and then you don’t think nicely, you judge and you criticize and you make wrong one and the great repetitive lessons I have had recently is to always request what I would like and what I need and what I want in a way that doesn’t make anybody wrong.  You just ask for what you want, oh honey would you please suck on my second toe just a little bit and put some chocolate on there too and just have a little of that versus how come you never suck my toes and they didn’t even know you like that.

So we have to be very careful in how we request and what we want so it’s always a beautiful, enticing, irresistible invitation.
