ABOUT AMY

Amy Ippoliti travels extensively to help others bridge the gap between ancient yoga wisdom and modern day life. As a certified Anusara yoga teacher since 2000, humanitarian leader and tireless advocate of the environment, Amy inspires thousands to live more meaningful and uplifted lives on a daily basis.

Amy is widely recognized for her down-to-earth teaching approach, lucid instruction, and for assisting her students in achieving personal breakthroughs on and off the mat. She believes everyone has the capacity to “turn up their own volume” through modern application of ancient yoga philosophy, personal development and by creating a deeper connection to nature, the Divine and one other.

Yoga Background

Amy began studying yoga in 1986 at the age of 16. By 1997, she completed the first ever teacher training with soon-to-be OM Yoga Center Director Cyndi Lee in NYC. Amy became a part of the original teaching staff when Lee officially founded Om Yoga Center the following year. During her stint in Manhattan, she also lead self-defense and empowerment courses for women, men and teens.  In 1998 she met Anusara Yoga founder, John Friend and has been studying and teaching Anusara yoga ever since.

Amy serves local and national yoga communities, as well as those in major international cities as one of the first teachers to attain Anusara certification. For the past 25 years, her vast knowledge and experience in hatha yoga, yoga physical therapy and pranayama has enhanced the lives of countless students.

Well-versed in Anusara yoga’s potent Universal Principles of Alignment™, elegant Tantric yoga philosophy and healing therapeutics, Amy learned much of what she teaches through her close apprenticeship with founder John Friend. For many years she assisted him on national tours, and continues to study and collaborate with John today. Today Amy tours the globe offering:

Amy chairs the Anusara Yoga Curriculum Committee and participates regularly as a faculty member of Omega Institute for Holistic Studies and Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health. Therapy Training

Amy incorporates Anusara yoga’s cutting-edge therapy and strength building in all her asana workshops, immersions and retreats. She also offers specialized yoga therapy trainings to those who teach yoga or wish to expand their knowledge of Anusara yoga’s Universal Principles of Alignment™. In these trainings, Amy addresses a variety of musculoskeletal injuries and misalignments related to the lower back, hips, shoulders, neck, knees, elbows, feet and wrists.

In addition to studying Anusara yoga therapy with John Friend for more than a decade, Amy also studied the art of Thai yoga massage with Antoinette McClaughlan from 1997 to 1998.


Tantric Yoga Philosophy And Sanskrit

Amy believes in approaching various areas of study and life with a beginner’s mind. Therefore she been a dedicated student of Hindu Tantric philosopher and renowned scholar Dr. Douglas Brooks since 1999. An authority on Shridvidya Shakta Tantrism, Sanskrit and Tamil languages and the history of religions, Douglas continues to deeply influence Amy and her teachings. Another of her great teachers is Manorama, Director of The School of Sanskrit Studies in New York City.

Each month, Amy sets a month-long, eco-friendly habit to complement her 30-Day Yoga Challenge. The idea is for participants to develop a green habit and ultimately adopt it beyond the 30-day challenge. Past challenges have encouraged members to bring their reusable tote bags to the markets, unplug appliances after using them, avoid purchasing and using plastic water bottles, shopping farmers’ markets and buying locally.
