Kal Holtzler: OneTaste Resident

Kal was born in Muncie, New York, the ninth of 12 children in an Orthodox Jewish family. Searching for meaning in his life, as a young teenager he moved to Israel. Three years later, he moved to back to the United States, and settled in Brooklyn, New York.

At age 18, Kal had a near-death experience that led to a spiritual awakening. Soon after, he entered rehabilitation for drug and substance abuse. Inspired to help other people in similar situations, he became certified for substance abuse counseling and began working with teens, many of whom had been sexually abused, at treatment centers in Switzerland, Israel and Pittsburgh. He also facilitated Alcoholics Anonymous meetings at prisons, rehabilitation centers and psychiatric wards.

From Pittsburgh, he moved to Texas and from Texas, he and a friend headed west to California in search of a place that could offer a raw, dynamic experience of life. They landed at OneTaste in January 2007.

Kal is director of OneTaste’s Youth Culture, a program that helps young people ages 18 to 26 find the rich and meaningful connection that they desire.
